COURTLAND
A Courtland man’s willingness to give of himself is not going unnoticed, even if he’s never made a big deal about it.
Starting at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, on June 4, 1962, Kenneth G. Porter has donated his blood whenever and wherever possible. His steady contributions five and one-half decades have added up to 80 gallons.
In the eyes of the American Red Cross for Coastal Virginia, that makes the Army veteran a worth choice to honor him among 10 other individuals and organizations within the Greater Hampton Roads region. The Celebration of Heroes will take place during a luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club, 7001 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk.
The agency defines its event as recognizing “remarkable heroes in our community who have saved a life, performed an act of courage, or who unselfishly serve and give inspirational leadership to our community.”
Admission is $45 per person, with profits benefitting the regional Red Cross. Tickets may be bought online at www.redcross.org/coastal heroes, or contact Clyde Parker at 647-8212 or magnolia101@charter.net.
