FRANKLIN

Roc Solid Foundation’s mission to help families battling pediatric cancer got welcome support from Kathara Spa in mid-December. That’s when the local business in downtown Franklin contributed $1,020 to the foundation.

On hand to accept the check from spa owner Emily Gyoker and staff was foundation representative Cari Best. She explained that Roc Solid has two programs, Ready Bags and Playsets.

The first is for the young patient when hospital treatment is needed. A blanket, some toiletries, gum or breath mints, a journal, a Samsung table and games are included for their stay.

The second is to create an opportunity for children to continue playing in a safe place. While the family is away for the morning, perhaps taken to breakfast, volunteers quickly build the playsets in the backyard.

Best said this particular program got started in 2009, with 108 having been constructed in 2019, and 115 scheduled for 2020.
