FRANKLIN/COURTLAND

The offices of both the City of Franklin and Southampton County will be closed to the public today, March 17, through March 27 in an effort to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Virginia.

All city employees are still reporting to work as usual. Those with business that would ordinarily be conducted at City Hall are asked to call the appropriate city department. Contact information for each department can be found on the city’s website at: franklinva.com/government/departments/.

The City Council meeting that was scheduled for Monday, March 23, and the joint work session with the Franklin City School Board scheduled for Thursday, March 26, have both been cancelled.

Those with questions are asked to call 562-8503.

The suspension in the county includes cancellation of all public meetings, including the Board of Supervisors Meeting on Tuesday, March 24. There will be a reassessment the situation at that time, and based on current conditions, may reopen or continue to restrict public access.

For the time being, county employees will continue to report to work and serve the public remotely.
