In an effort to let students know that their teachers have not forgotten them despite schools remaining closed for the rest of the academic year, Isle of Wight County Schools has organized a parade of teachers, staff and administrators from Carrsville Elementary School, which will travel to various neighborhoods throughout the southern end of the county tomorrow afternoon.

The parade will begin around 1:30 p.m. on Carrsville Highway and will travel as follows, all times being approximate:

• 1:40 p.m. – Airport Drive

• 1:55 p.m. – Camptown

• 2:20 p.m. – Walters Highway

• 2:30 p.m. – Beaver Brook Mobile Home Park

• 2:45 p.m. – Walters Highway

• 2:55 p.m. – Pondview Mobile Home Park

• 3:15 p.m. – Colosse

• 3:30 p.m. – Sunset Drive

• 3:35 p.m. – Spivey Town Road

• 3:45 p.m. – Freeman Drive

• 3:50 p.m. Old Carrsville Road

Earlier this week, Gov. Ralph Northam announced sweeping measures to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus, to include a ban on any gathering of more than 10 people. According to Lynn Briggs, spokeswoman for the school division, Carrsville Elementary has communicated to parents and students to adhere to social distancing — meaning they are to watch from their door or front yard, and not congregate. The teachers will also each be in their own cars in a line of slow-moving traffic.

“That should also adhere to social distancing guidelines for participants,” Briggs said.

The event flyer further warns, “Heightened levels of excitement are expected from our students when they see our staff. We encourage you to keep a watchful eye on them to avoid them running into parade traffic. Please stay out of the street and avoid running across the street in front of or between the parade traffic. Please utilize sidewalks when possible and practice social distancing with 6-feet expectations.”
