Moms needed now more than ever

Because for the foreseeable future The Tidewater News has to be printed on Wednesday, it requires us to wax a bit eloquent about mothers a few days earlier than usual.

That said, we think that most of you’ll agree that in this troubling time, the mere presence of our moms — even the idea of them — is especially needed. We all long for the sight and sound of her, telling us words that will give us comfort and hope.

In turn, each of us must also be mindful to support her, especially if she’s isolated at home. Some examples: Make regular phone calls, set up Skype, FaceTime or ZOOM meetings, if feasible, and arrange for safe delivery of food or other supplies as needed.

Sad but true: There won’t be an opportunity to take her out to lunch or dinner in a fine restaurant this Sunday, so it will be up to each of us to find creative and individual ways to tell her that day how great she is in each of our lives.

Finally, don’t let Mother’s Day be the only time you reach out. Make it a point to show and tell appreciation throughout the years and, we hope for many of you, decades to come.
