To the editor:

The church bell of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Drewryville rang at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day in observance of the National Moment of Remembrance, a moment to pause and remember those who lost their lives during all the wars in which the United States of America has been involved from the Revolutionary War to the present.

Under normal circumstances the ringing of the bell would have been followed by a memorial service held in the Drewryville Cemetery, but these are not normal times. However, veterans buried in the Drewryville Cemetery were not forgotten. A U.S. flag was posted on the grave of each veteran by members of the GFWC Drewryville Woman’s Club.

We dare not forget the ultimate sacrifice made by so many and the service of so many others in the armed forces of the Unite States to preserve the freedoms we continue to enjoy today.
