Included in today’s School page — please see B1 — is a photo and information about Riverdale Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year (Michelle Winters) as well as a tribute to Capron Elementary School’s administrative professional (Carolyn Wrenn). We had already highlighted Capron Elementary’s selection (Faith White), and anticipate recognizing other teachers of the local schools in the coming week or so.

Every year, instructors are chosen by their peers to be named Teacher of the Year. Almost always, the individuals are each noted not just for knowing their subject, but more importantly in connecting with their students. They are the teachers who encourage and push them to not merely learn the subjects at hand, but also seek out a broader range of opportunities in learning and personal growth.

To be sure, the past few months have been a challenge for everyone when it’s come to education, but instructors such as Winters and White are among those who have risen to the challenge. The same goes for Ms. Wrenn, who keeps Capron Elementary operating smoothly and efficiently as an administrative professional (read also: secretary). Wrenn, like others in her work, knows who’s who and what’s what. She’s also one of those people who students can go to for help in nearly any occasion.

We salute the aforementioned honorees, and encourage other teachers and administrative professionals to look to them as role models.
