Parks and Rec to give away activity backpacks
FRANKLIN
The Franklin Parks and Recreation Department is usually bustling with various activities Monday through Saturday. But with the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center closed for the foreseeable future because of the COVID-19 pandemic, what to do?
For the time being, though, the agency has come up with an idea for youngsters.
Marie Davis, administrative assistant, “Normally, we’re open daily, for after school and on Saturdays. We wanted to do something for the kids, so we thought, ‘Why don’t we make backpacks?’”
While supplies last, drawstring backpacks will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, in front of the site, 683 Oak St.
Included will be a stress ball, reading book, bucket list poster, bubbles, activity book, picture frame craft, piggy bank, ink pad and stampers, chimes craft, noisemakers, pencil, notebook and pen.
Davis said the objects came from either Oriental Trading or Amazon.
