NEWSOMS — Louise Whitfield Story, 107, widow of James C. “Crack” Story, passed away on Sept. 24, 2020, with her family by her side.

Born and raised in Southampton County, she was the daughter of Charles Franklin Whitfield and Clio King Whitfield. Louise was also predeceased by three brothers, Franklin, Marion and Elliott Whitfield.

Louise was a graduate of Franklin High School and East Carolina Teachers College. She was a second grade teacher at Boykins, Sedley and Newsoms before she became a farmer’s wife.

She was a member of Newsoms Woman’s Club and a former Pink Lady at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Louise was the oldest member of Franklin Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Virginia Lee Story of Newsoms and Constance Story Roberson (Fred) of Durham, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Ed and Kristen Roberson; a great-grandson, Anson Roberson; a special nephew, Elliott Whitfield; and two special caregivers, Vickie Hawkins and Candace Smith.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, in Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Gibson officiating.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Franklin Baptist Church.
