FRANKLIN — Jerry P. Lawyer Sr. of Dorchester Street in Franklin, transitioned from his earthly life to receive his eternal rest and peace on Sept. 17, 2020, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 21, 1950, to Mitchell Sr. and Mary Lou Williams Lawyer in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

Jerry was a graduate of Georgie Tyler High School, Windsor.

In 2009, he retired from Union Camp Corporation after 35 years of service.

During his earlier years, he attended Piney Grove Baptist Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Terrence Lawyer; siblings, Phyllis Evans, James Williams, Melvin Lawyer, Charles Lawyer and Michael Lawyer.

His memory will be treasured by his wife, Debora B. Lawyer; five sons, Jerry “JP” Lawyer II (Naoko), JáRon Lawyer, Tevin Lawyer, Terryaton Williams (Latoyia), Teaundrus Williams (Stephanie); one sister, Karen Lawyer; one brother, Mitchell Lawyer (Gertrude); several grandchildren, one great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m., in Move of God Ministries, 221 S. Main St., Franklin, with the Rev. William Freeman Sr. delivering the eulogy; Apostle Tyrone Hart is the pastor.

The committal and benediction will be held in Southview Cemetery.

A service with dignity will be conducted by Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St.
