FRANKLIN — Barbara Irene Smith, 72, passed away on Sept. 30, 2020, in her home.

Born on March 4, 1948, in Suffolk, she was a daughter of the late Millard Ronald Smith and Bessie Harrell Smith, and was also predeceased by a son, Kenneth Harold Stewart Sr.

Survivors include four sons, Tom Stewart of Nathalie, Virginia; Tim Stewart of Zebulon, North Carolina; Chris Stewart Jr. of Gates, North Carolina; and Stephen Stewart of Suffolk; a sister, Frances Walker of Ohio; two brothers, Ivan and Allen Smith, both of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her partner, David Mulrooney of Franklin.

Services will be private.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 7202 Glen Forest Drive, Suite 102, Richmond, VA 23226.
