COMO, N.C. — John Lyles Eure, 73, “Pretty Man John,” passed away on Nov. 14, 2020, in his home with family by his side. A lifelong resident of Como, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Joseph Edward Eure Sr. and Lucy Howell Eure.

John attended Murfreesboro High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired warehouse manager for E.F. Stephenson and Son in Como, and was a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church.

John, Badge No. 308, was a dedicated member of the Como Volunteer Fire Department for 48 years, where he was the safety officer for 10 years.

He was famous for his peanut butter fudge, chocolate fudge and banana pudding.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Linda Wright Eure; three sons, John Lyles Eure II (Melody Cutchin) of Ahoskie, Jake Trenton Eure (April) of Franklin, and David Raymond Anankin of Como; five sisters, Juanita Bohlander, Frances Byrum, Margaret Smith, Hannah Futrell and Joyce Byrum; a brother, Joseph Edward Eure Jr.; three grandchildren, John Lyles “T.J.” Eure III, Trenton Alexander Eure and Rebecca Haylee Eure; and his beloved dog “Jack.”

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, in Buckhorn Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Deacon officiating. Military and fireman honors will be accorded at the grave.

Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday and Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
