FRANKLIN
Franklin High School (FHS) is thrilled to welcome its new director of bands and choral activities, Wynton Donovan Davis. To introduce him to the community and help everyone get to know him, FHS asked Davis about his goals and vision for the school’s band program. Davis stated that the Franklin High School Band and Chorus strive for musical excellence, continually willing to improve and achieve higher standards, as well as mastering new repertoire.
As director, Davis is excited to support and encourage the diverse musical tastes of his members and audiences alike. He will pursue a versatile musical repertoire that will take audiences through all musical genres, including classical standards, modern compositions, concert band and choir arrangements, jazz and musical theatre, and big band and popular culture. Concerts and performances will be varied to capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences, thus allowing them to enjoy a musical journey.
Davis’ vision for the band is quite simple: to embrace the power of music by broadening musical minds and producing an outstanding showcase to delight and uplift audiences. Subsequently, this sense of achievement will provide a huge amount of pride and satisfaction within the band membership and the student body.
Some of his goals are to increase the membership of both band and chorus; introduce new and innovative techniques of learning and teaching music theory; improve and develop the overall appearance and sound of the Marching Stampede and all musical performing groups within the FHS music department; become an ambassador for the local community as well as Virginia by exuding excellence and the best in music and showmanship; and gain national recognition by participating in local, statewide and national band & choral competitions/events.
Welcome to FHS, Mr Davis.
