The inaugural Circle of Trees took place on Dec. 6 at the Buck Lassiter Mini Park. This event was put together by Clete and Renee Lassiter as Renee started the same event while she lived in Michigan.
Participants were: Cann Farms, Boykins Lions Club, the Gadd Family, Boykins Volunteer Fire Dept & Rescue, Boykins Baptist Church, Southampton Sheriff Office, the Coard Family, Boykins Masonic Lodge, The Robertson Family and the Freeman Family. They began decorating at 1 p.m. and the official tree lighting was at 5:15 p.m.
Vice Mayor Jackie Robertson counted down the official lighting and the Rev. Raymond Bunn led everyone in carols afterward. The Circle of Trees this year was dedicated in memory of Carolyn and Jimmy Modlin and all of the many people that have passed away in the community this year.
The main tree in the park has new lighting that was donated by the pastor. The 10 decorated trees were placed around the main tree in the park.
The trees are expected to be lit every day at dusk until the end of the year.
“We hope to make this an annual tradition to bring the community together to celebrate the Christmas season,” said Renee Lassiter.
