The Christmas parade scheduled for this Saturday, Dec. 12, has been canceled.

Brent Edwards of the Newsoms Ruritan Club, which organized the event, said the decision was made to be proactive in keeping with Gov. Ralph Northam’s announcement earlier on Thursday afternoon. Northam outlined several new mitigation measures to slow the spread of COVID-19. The restrictions, such as as curfew, take effect on Dec. 14

There are no plans to reschedule the event.
