Police conduct animal cruelty investigation

Franklin Police Department indicated June 4 it was involved in an investigation into possible animal cruelty on Clay Street.
In a news release, the department stated that at 1:30 p.m. on June 4, officers from the department executed a search warrant in the 1200 block of Clay Street. Upon execution of the search warrant, officers found numerous dogs at the residence.
Based on a preliminary investigation, four dogs were removed and taken for medical treatment.
The investigation is ongoing, the June 4 release stated, adding that upon further investigation and evidence gathered, this case will be referred to the Southampton County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for possible charges.
Asked for an update June 7, Franklin Sgt. Scott Halverson stated there was nothing new to add at that time.
