Portsmouth – A man of faith in God, high energy, hardworking and never met a stranger. Robert Richie Baines, affectionately known as “Richie,” during his childhood and “Bob” as an adult, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021 following a short battle with acute myloid leukemia (AML).
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert Otis Baines Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Baines Carr; a brother, David Wayne Baines; and his wife, Doris Edith Creekmore on July 20, 2020.
Bob is survived by his brother, Donnie Wesley Baines (Debra); sister, Shirley Baines Robinson (John); stepfather, Roy M. Carr; aunts, Dot Daughtrey of Suffolk and Lourdes Baines of Savannah, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He retired as a nuclear tool and die maker supervisor from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of Cypress Chapel Christian Church and in recent months attended Antioch Church.
A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Dr., Suffolk, VA 23434. Burial with military honors will be private at Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Antioch Church Missions Fund, P.O. Box 36, Windsor, VA 23487.
