SEDLEY – Kay Francis Johnson, 81, went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 19, 2021. Born in Southampton County on Sept. 9, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Carter Francis and Louise Vick Francis. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Betty Josephine Johnson; a son, Stephen Lee Johnson and a brother, Kermit Francis.
Kay was a 1956 graduate of Southampton High School and a 1960 graduate of James Madison College. She taught at Southampton Academy for 30 plus years and also taught Sunday School at Sedley Baptist Church. Kay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Joseph Benjamin “J.B.” Johnson Jr.; son, Benjamin Carter Johnson (Kimberly); a sister, Peggy Vann; five grandchildren, Benjamin Carter Johnson II (Kendall), Shelby Elizabeth Andleton, Roland James “R.J.” Andleton, Mary Ellis and Andrew Ellis; and three great-grandchildren, Lilly Washburn, Stephen Johnson and Benjamin “Benji” Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24 in Wright Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Goebel and Rev. Jim Foreman officiating. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Boykins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Southampton Academy or Sedley Baptist Church.
