To the Editor:

I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of the City of Franklin for the honorable relocation of the Monument to Confederate Dead to Poplar Spring Cemetery. It was done under the direct and constant supervision of General Services Superintendent Lin Darden. City Manager Amanda Jarrett also took the time to stop by and see that the project was progressing as planned. Hampton Roads Crane and Rigging allowed volunteer Engineer Brian Lockwood to supervise the re-erection and he did a fantastic job. It is re-erected more structurally sound than it was before. Also many thanks to the Council members that voted to make sure it was re-erected. It is also safer in a public cemetery than it was before. Where vandalism to it in a park was only a misdemeanor crime, vandalism in a cemetery is a Felony that carries prison time.
