Agencies participate in increased traffic enforcement

Five law enforcement agencies along U.S. Route 58 participated in an increased traffic enforcement detail Saturday, Sept. 4, to promote safe driving during the holiday weekend.
A Southampton County Sheriff’s Office news release continued by stating that the participating agencies were Emporia Police Department, Greensville County Sheriff’s Office, Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, Southampton County Sheriff’s Office and Suffolk Police Department.
In total, 324 summonses were issued for a range of traffic violations, and one arrest was made. The individual numbers are as follows: Emporia — 16; Greensville — 31; Mecklenburg — 65 and one arrest; Southampton — 162; and Suffolk — 50.
“Thank you to all of the agencies and their deputies and officers for participating in this event to increase safety for all during a busy holiday weekend,” officials said in the release.
