FRANKLIN – Thelma Hobbs Murrell of Oak Street, Franklin, peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Oct. 14, 2021. Her earthly journey began June 10, 1931 in Sussex County, Virginia, born to Paul and Gertrude Hobbs.
During her youth, Thelma attended school in Sussex County. She became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and remained faithful until her health declined. Thelma was employed with the Jones family as their housekeeper and retired after 40 years of service.
In addition to her parents passing, Thelma was predeceased by one sister, Louise Hobbs; brothers, Paul Hobbs Jr., James Hobbs and Monroe Hobbs. She is survived by son, Walter Hobbs of Franklin and daughter, Annie Lewis (Marion) of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Corey Lewis, Shawn Hobbs (Towanda), Shelley Hobbs (Bruce); great-grandchildren, Zhyona, Jalyn, Janiya, Bryson and Brian; nieces, nephews and extended family.
A public viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 6 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1071 Carrsville Highway, Franklin with Assistant Pastor Delores A. Manley delivering the message of comfort; the Rev. Alfred D. Brown Sr. is the pastor. The committal and benediction will immediately follow in Southview Cemetery.
