SEDLEY – Jessie Johnson Cook, 84, passed away Nov. 8, 2021 in East Pavilion. Jessie was a native of Southampton County, a daughter of the late Jimmy and Julia Davis Johnson. She was also predeceased by her husband, Harold Randolph Cook; her sister, Hazel Hughes and three brothers, Chesley, J.C. and Vance Johnson.
Jessie was a member of Sedley Baptist Church and a retired secretary for the pulp mill with Union Camp Corporation after 40 years of service. She is well known for her delicious cakes she made for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Troy R. Cook (Carolyn); two grandchildren, Shelby Thorpe and Amanda Ritter (Andy); and four great-grandchildren, Garrett, Gannon, Karter and Kolton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14 in Wright Funeral Home in Franklin. The burial will follow at Rosemont Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday and suggests that memorial donations be made to The Southampton Agricultural & Forestry Museum, 26315 Heritage Lane, Courtland, VA 23837.
