COURTLAND – Vanessa Teresa Greene, 66, of the 21000 block of Buckhorn Quarter Road, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on Wednesday Nov. 24, 2021 in Obici Hospital in Suffolk. She was born on Dec. 11, 1954, in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Sidney and Odessa Moore.

She attended Portsmouth Public Schools and continued her education at Norfolk State University and Saint Leo College. She retired as a Portsmouth police officer in 1999 after 23 years of service, served as an adult probation and parole officer in Portsmouth and Suffolk, District 6 and retired in 2017 as program coordinator for the 5th Judicial District Community Corrections Program in Suffolk.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and served on the usher board, as chairperson of the Stewardship Committee and an Elder. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Colonel (Ret.) AUS Linwood “Gerrv”Greene Jr.; a son, Jonathan S. Moore of Orange County, California; a grandson, Sidney M. Moore of Orange County, California; two sisters, Jacqueline Moore Mikaroja of Chesapeake and Mary Moore of Lutz, Florida; two brothers, Sidney Moore Jr. (Maria) of Oakley, California, Dwight Moore (Kyeson) of Anaheim, California and uncle, Nathaniel Moore (Dorothy) of Markham, Illinois; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Vanessa was predeceased by her father, Sidney C. Moore, her mother, Odessa “Granny” Moore and brother Hubert L. Moore.

A visitation will be held from 10 – noon and a Life Celebration Service at noon on Dec. 13 at J.T. Fisher Funeral Services; 1248 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, VA 23323. Interment will be at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery on Dec. 13, 5310 Milner‘s Road, Suffolk, Virginia. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com.
