A snowy weekend looks to be on tap for the Western Tidewater area this week.
The weather event — actually from two separate systems that will arrive back-to-back — is expected to start Thursday evening and then last all the way through Saturday.
“There’s kind of two separate things we’re watching,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Alec Butner.
He said the first portion will happen Thursday into early Friday. A cold front will come through with rain changing over to snow.
“That could drop a quick inch, inch and a half of snow,” he said.
The event could start around the evening rush hour Thursday, so people should be aware of that and plan accordingly.
“Then we’re watching a second system, which potentially could be larger, midday Friday to Friday evening and beyond, into Saturday,” Butner said.
“It’s still too soon to tell, but it looks like maybe that one could be a little more significant than the first one,” Butner said. “That will get clearer as we move forward.”
