Thursday night’s snow was little more than a dusting, but the snow arriving Friday afternoon and evening promises to be more significant.
“We’re looking for some light snow to move back into the area this afternoon, around 3 or 4 o’clock,” said Mike Montefusco, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Wakefield. “The majority of accumulating snow will occur around or just after dark and overnight.”
Montefusco said the area will likely be in the 2- to 4-inch range, with areas farther east seeing a little bit more snow.
“This will be a little bit of a drier snow versus what we received late last night, because we are quite a bit colder today,” he added.
Franklin and Southampton County are under a winter storm warning.
Montefusco advised folks to lay low over the weekend and not to drive unless it was necessary.
“If you don’t have any solid plans for the weekend, hang out and let the road crews do their thing,” he said.
Those who do have to drive should take it slow and allow plenty of time to get to their destination, he said. There could be some black ice on the roads, particularly on Sunday morning.
“The next couple of days, we won’t be getting above the freezing mark,” he added. “If you can delay your travel, certainly that would be a good thing.”
