IWA sports roundup: Boys hoops team routs Vikings

Isle of Wight Academy’s varsity boys basketball team reeled off 21 straight points in the first quarter Jan. 18 to race out to an early lead against Brunswick Academy, eventually besting the visiting Vikings 74-41.
The Chargers had five players who scored in double figures; Brunswick had none.
The win moved IWA above the .500 mark inside and outside of Virginia Colonial Conference play at 4-3 and 5-4, respectively. Brunswick fell to 0-3, 1-10.
Games scheduled for Jan. 20 and 21 were postponed due to inclement weather.
The Chargers boys basketball program was set to host Richmond Christian School for three games beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, and it will host Banner Christian School on Friday, Jan. 28, also at 4:30 p.m.
Richmond Christian was ranked third in the most recent Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state poll for the league’s smallest schools.
The IWA varsity girls basketball team dropped to 6-1, 6-1 in the VCC, losing to Brunswick 42-37 on Jan. 19.
The Lady Chargers were set to travel to Richmond Christian on Monday, Jan. 24, and to Denbigh Baptist Christian School on Thursday, Jan. 27; game times are at 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The IWA indoor track team set 10 new personal records and the 4×400 relay team set a new record in a meet Jan. 18 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.
