FRANKLIN – Margaret Keeter Bowden, 82, fondly known to friends and family as “Kakie” went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 29, 2022, with her loving family by her side. She passed away in the place closest to her heart fondly called Bowden’s Bliss; the home built by her and her beloved husband of 50 years, Donald. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorether Darden Keeter and Phillip Lee Keeter; devoted husband, Donald Bowden; grandson, Phillip Trent Mayville and lifetime best friend, Genevieve “Baby” Volpe.
To describe this great woman’s life with a few words connected in short sentences in a small space can in no way describe her or do her justice. In this instance, unconnected words are what can best describe her and her life. They are: Christian, loving, caring, sacrificing, mediator, giving, protector, adviser, preserver, character, wife, mother, friend, hard worker, gardener, proud of her heritage, community service and not least of all, great cook.
Over the years she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Isle of Wight Republican Party, Mount Carmel Christian Church, Walters Home Demonstration Club, Pilot Club and currently Franklin Christian Church.
During her lifetime besides the job of fantastic wife, mother and friend she worked at the Sarah Bondwell Regional Center, Smithfield Packing, Zuni Presbyterian Homes and retired from the City of Suffolk Department of Social Services.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Bowden Mayville; son, Phillip H. Bowden and daughter-in-law, Julie; grandchildren, Kasey Lee Taylor and Phillip Lee Bowden; great-grandchildren, Aria, Gabriel and Landon Taylor; a sister, Phyllis Keeter Story; along with a host of loving family members and granddog, Patches.
Special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Kim Powell and Vickie Collins, along with special nurses, Holly and Doris of Amedisys Hospice.
A graveside service will be held at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, 37527 Seacock Chapel Road in Zuni on Tuesday, May 3, at 5 p.m. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home Wakefield Chapel is serving the family. Online condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
