COURTLAND – Robert (Bobby) Yates, 80, of Courtland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2022. He was born in Pollocksville, North Carolina, the son of the late John E. Yates and Blanche Windley Yates. He retired from Sentara Healthcare after being in printing for 50 years. He enjoyed many hobbies including softball, basketball, fishing and coaching little league sports. He was instrumental in forming the first Tidewater Senior League and served on the board of directors as treasurer.

Surviving family includes his beloved wife of 58 years, Sue Carawan Yates; his son, Eric Yates (Tracey) and their sons, Britton and Parker; his daughter, Stephanie Harris (Ed) and their daughters, Kaylee (Corey) and Carawan (Jonah) and their great-grandchildren: Hunter and Hadleigh; his sister, Linda Hestad of Chesapeake and his brother, Bill (Jill) of England. A memorial service will be held at Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, VA 23322 on Friday, May 6, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception for family and friends.
