FRANKLIN – Joseph Clifton Harcum, 92, passed away on May 7, 2022 in his home with family by his side. Born in Norfolk and reared in Virginia Beach and a former resident of Chester, he was the son of the late Hillory Otis Harcum and Pheirba Jennings Harcum. He was also predeceased by a sister, Doris Salmons.
Clifton was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and a medic for the U.S. Air Force stationed in England. He was a retired office manager for Exxon Mobile and a former owner of an Exxon station in Williamsburg. Clifton was a longtime Mason and Shriner and a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Sonja Hermes “Faye” Harcum; three sons, J. C. Harcum Jr., H. O. Harcum (Shauna) and Dean Harcum (Christine); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces, Mindy and Dana; and his beloved pets, Joy, Kit Kat and his savior, Chester.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11 in the Harcum Family Cemetery, 32054 Sycamore Church Road in Franklin with the Rev. Tracey Pugh officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Wright Funeral Home and suggests that memorial donations be made to Sycamore Baptist Church.
