Drew Page, Ann Dove Page, Ainsley Page and Asher Page competed in the Amateur Athletic Union National Karate Championship tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from June 29-July 2. Drew and Ann Dove each won the national championship gold medal in kata and a silver medal in kumite. Their daughter, Ainsley, won a bronze medal in kata and in kumite. Their son, Asher, won his first rounds of kata and kumite but fell just short of the medal podium.
The Pages are members of the Virginia Martial Arts Center’s competition team. Their coach is Sensei Jason Hammond. The Virginia Martial Arts Center is located in Chesapeake and is owned and operated by Hanshi Darren Myers.
The Pages joined the dojo during the 2020 pandemic, as online classes were offered through Zoom. As they progressed, and after the statewide reopening, they began to attend some classes in person while also continuing some classes online due to distance.
