FRANKLIN – James Harrison Saunders Jr., 76, passed away July 15, 2022. He was born in Suffolk, the son of the late James Harrison Saunders Sr. and Nancy Elizabeth Ferguson Saunders. James was a U.S. Army sergeant having served during the Vietnam War. When he returned home he started his career as the assistant manager of A&P Store which later became Food Lion. Later he joined Union Camp in the roll finishing department and retired from what is now known as International Paper. He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church.
Jimmy is survived by his brothers, Carl Randolph “Randy” Saunders (Bruce), Martin Ray Saunders and “Carl” Ferguson Saunders (Jean); nephews, Job Saunders, Brian, David and Adam Saunders; nieces, Lisa S. Weeks and Kelly M. Hardey; and his best friend, Warren Holland.
Jimmy loved sci-fi movies and his cat, “Gracy” along with any visiting cats from the neighborhood.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held on Monday, Aug. 1, at 3 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Michael D. Halley officiating.
