Isle of Wight Academy sports: Cross country runners distinguish themselves

Isle of Wight Academy’s varsity girls cross country team finished eighth out of 19 teams with a score of 215 at the 2022 Fork Union Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17, in Fork Union.
IWA’s Hannah Edwards finished third overall out of 169 runners with a time of 21:30.
Among junior varsity girls runners, Hannah Whitley finished first with a time of 14:26, and Jocelyn Wilson finished second with a time of 15:43.
The IWA varsity boys team finished in 10th place overall out of 25 teams with a score of 292. The Chargers were led, individually, by John Butler in seventh place with his 18:47.7 time — his second sub-20-minute race in as many tries. Teammate Zachary Jackson finished 41st with a time of 20:18.9.
The IWA varsity volleyball team opened its 2022 campaign with a 1-1 start, losing its opener 3-1 versus visiting Nansemond River High School on Monday, Sept. 12, but defeating host Broadwater Academy 3-1 on Friday, Sept. 16.
IWA took the third set against the Lady Warriors and dropped the second against the Lady Vikings.
