Rock Lions varsity basketball opens with two wins

The Rock Church School varsity basketball team began its 2022-23 season with road victories over Suffolk Christian Academy and Mount Calvary Christian Academy, the latter being of Hookerton, North Carolina.
On Nov. 14, the Rock Lions defeated host SCA 64-43. The lead scorer was one of Rock’s seniors, D.J. Dillon, who produced an impressive 45 points. Behind him was Miles Dawkins, a new face to the Lions, with 15 points. By halftime the Lions were up 38-19.
DeSean Stevenson scored 13 points for Suffolk Christian.
Against the host Mount Calvary Christian Warriors on Nov. 21, Rock had an impeccable run, with the final score being 66-20. Dillon continued his impressive ways on offense with 35 points, while Dawkins added 14 points, and Luke Blythe contributed 13.
Rock’s junior varsity team also opened its season by going 2-0.
RCS officials noted that the school’s basketball teams “continue to show Christ on the court. He sees them through every win and any loss. The goal is to shine His light through their character and attitudes.”
The varsity Rock Lions were set to continue their schedule during the week of Nov. 27 with games against Brunswick Academy and Albemarle School.
