SMITHFIELD – James Lewis ”Jimmy” McDowell, 91, passed away on Jan. 8, 2023 in Sentara Obici Hospital. Born in Newport News, he was a son of the late Lewis Frederick McDowell and Mary Hallie Reed McDowell.

Jimmy was retired from the U.S. Navy and Civil Service. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his brother, Fred McDowell of Boise, Idaho and his dear friends, Marty and Rita Porter of Newsoms.
Services will be private.
