WINDSOR – Jean Jordan Claud, 86, passed away on Jan. 27, 2023. Born April 15, 1936, Jean was the second of three children born to the late Randolph Sr. and Ruby (Annas) Jordan of Benns Church, Virginia. After graduating Smithfield High School, Jean attended James Madison University where she earned a bachelor of science degree in education. Jean taught at Holland Elementary School and Isle of Wight Academy before retiring as a bookkeeper and office manager in 1989.
Jean is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert “Bobby” Claud Sr. They were married on Aug. 3, 1958. They have two children, Robert “Robie” Claud Jr. (Donna) and Terry Claud Coddington (Carl), five grandchildren, Jennifer Homan (Peter), Jesse Claud (Alex), Matthew Carr, Jamie Pearce (Stephen) and C.J. Coddington and eight great-grandchildren. Jean and Bobby lived in Windsor for 61 years before moving to Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Randolph Jordan Jr. and is survived by her sister, Bobbie Jones.
Spending time with family and friends has always been important to Jean. She especially enjoyed it when they were together at Lake Gaston. Jean enjoyed many crafts throughout her life, including cake decorating, scrapbooking, quilting and making photo albums. Her interests extended beyond just the family. Jean was very involved in the community, volunteering at the Western Tidewater Free Clinic, Meals on Wheels and Windsor Library, to name a few. She also was an active member of the Windsor Congregational Christian Church, serving in various positions, including deacon, Women’s Fellowship and choir member. Jean was also very active in the Woman’s Club of Windsor, producing the yearbook, editing the monthly newsletter, “The Echoes,” and participating in many other projects.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Lake Prince Woods, for their care of Jean.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 11 a.m. at the Windsor Congregational Christian Church, 4 North Court Street in Windsor, followed by a burial at Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 30 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory , Downtown Suffolk Chapel.
