COURTLAND – Chloe Ellaree Choate Hyder, 84 years of age, passed away Jan. 29, 2023. Born in Jamestown, Tennessee, she was the wife of predeceased Earl R. Hyder, whom she was married to for 29 years. Mrs. Hyder ran Hyder’s Variety Store located on Main Street in Courtland with her husband from 1964 until 1978. Following their career on Main Street, the Hyders opened Hyder’s Mobile Home Park in Courtland.
Mrs. Hyder is predeceased by her parents Edison and Eva Choate; her brothers, Casher A. Choate, Carson J. Choate, Glenn Choate and sister, Gertrude C. Elmore; brothers-in-laws, Mike Apple, Hascle Wright and Robert Elmore; sisters-in-law, Donna Choate and Alberta Choate; nieces, Beverly E. Brown and Janie Choate.
Mrs. Hyder is survived by her daughter, Tammy H. Fowler (Larry). Mrs. Hyder was known and cherished as “Nanny” to her two grandchildren, Pete Fowler (Christy) and Cherie Winstead (Russell), as well as her three great-grandchildren, Addison Fowler, Alexiah Fowler and Gavin Winstead and stepdaughter, Linda Shaw-Black (Jim). Mrs. Hyder is also survived by her loving sisters, Windlean C. Wright, Betty C. Bowden (Bill) and Sue C. Apple; one brother, Guy Choate and wife Kaye; and sister-in-law, Joyce Choate.
The funeral service will be held at Newsoms Baptist Church on Friday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Tom Wallace officiating. Visitation will be at Wright Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. located at 206 W. 4th Avenue in Franklin. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home during this time, and suggest memorials be made payable to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and/or Newsoms Baptist Church, P.O. Box 312, Newsoms, VA 23874.
