SEBRELL – Edith Britt Fekete died peacefully at Churchland House with her family by her side on Feb. 2, 2023. She was a faithful Christian southern lady, the glue of her family and a force to be reckoned with. She was proud to be the wife of a Southampton County farmer and World War II veteran for 68 years. Her beloved husband, Johnny Fekete, preceded her in death and she mourned his absence daily.

Edith Britt Fekete

Edith retired from V.L. Worrell Appliance Store in Wakefield. A Sussex County native, born April 11, 1932 to the late George Hugh and Eunice Holland Britt, she enjoyed staying active in that community. She was a member of Sebrell United Methodist Church and gatekeeper extraordinaire of the Sebrell Community Center. Edith enjoyed traveling, entertaining, playing bridge, reading and hummingbirds. Upon her move to Churchland House she became a zookeeper for squirrels and a bingo wiz, often abandoning visitors at game time.

Edith loved her family fiercely. Left to cherish her memory are three children, Margie Cutright (E.J.), James Stephen “Stevie” Fekete and Mark Fekete (Elaine); granddaughters, Margaret Anne Smith (Michael), Patricia Davis (Ben), Christy Fowler (Pete) and Mary Alice Fekete; grandson, John Mark “Jack” Fekete and great-grandchildren, Grace, Ellen and Ben Davis, Wyatt Smith and Addison and Alexiah Fowler. Edith was predeceased by her brother, James Thornton Britt and sisters, Joyce Frazier and Hurris Harrup. She will be greatly missed by sisters, Nancy Pritchett and Barbara Monahan and brother, G.H. Britt (Margie). The family extends their deepest appreciation to her special caregivers. She kept them on their toes.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Wright Funeral Home. The burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Courtland. The family will receive friends at the home of Buster and Margie Cutright.
