Lady Dukes to play for district tourney title

Windsor High School’s varsity girls basketball team advanced to the Tri-Rivers District Tournament championship game with definitive victories in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds.
The Lady Dukes (16-5, 10-4 Tri-Rivers) are set to visit Brunswick High School (19-2, 15-0 Tri-Rivers) in the title game Friday evening, Feb. 10. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
In the quarterfinals on Monday, Feb. 6, Windsor blew out visiting Appomattox Regional Governor’s School 62-14.
Leading the Lady Dukes to that final score were senior guard/forward Melissa Carr, with 17 points, freshman guard/forward Mariah Stephenson, with 12 points, and junior guard Keaera Kea-Towns, with 10 points.
Windsor avenged a 47-28 Jan. 20 road loss to Franklin High School by defeating the visiting Lady Broncos 65-49 in the tournament semifinals Wednesday, Feb. 8.
The Lady Dukes’ scoring leader in this contest was junior center Shamyah Stephenson, who poured in 22 points. Kea-Town stood out again, this time with 14 points, and Mariah Stephenson again contributed 12 points.
Against Brunswick during the regular season, Windsor fell 59-38 at home Jan. 30 and 59-48 on the road Feb. 1.
The Lady Dukes are looking to prove the adage right that it is difficult to beat a team three times.
