FRANKLIN – Samuel G. Bradshaw, 72, passed away at home on March 14, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. The angels accompanied him safely into God’s presence. He was a humble, gentle and kind person with the best bear hugs. Sam was the son of the late Robert Reginald and Sarah Gay Bradshaw. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Betsy Blythe Bradshaw; daughter, Holly Nightingale and her husband, Jeremy; son Lee Bradshaw and his wife, Ashley and daughter, Rose Jeter and her hu

sband, Ned; six grandchildren Adelyn and Laine Bradshaw, Elin and Lydia Nightingale, Sedley and Owen Jeter; sister Elizabeth Perry; brother, Dale Bradshaw and wife, Kandi; sister-in-law, Kathy Bradshaw; brother-in-law, Robert Ehlman and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers, Reginald L. Bradshaw, Edward Bradshaw and his sister, Rubie Ehlman.

As a fourth generation farmer, Sam always cherished living on his family’s farm and the time he had working alongside his father. He graduated from Southampton High School in 1969. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for six years as communications sergeant. In addition to farming, in 1989 he went to work at Union Camp where he developed a passion for being an electrician. He served as a shift maintenance electrician for many years and enjoyed being a member of the Heat Team. After the mill closed, he became a master electrician and appreciated his time working with Highground Services. He had a strong work ethic and loved problem solving and creating creative solutions through both of his occupations. Sam enjoyed his working years and his many work friendships were an important part of his life.

Like his mother, Sam was well known for his cooking and hospitality. He loved to share his country cooking and recipes with family and friends. He was a life-long member of Black Creek Baptist Church. Sam was also a longtime member of the Black Creek Hunt Club, where he served as vice president for a couple of years and the Bronco Rod and Gun Club where he loved spending time with friends and fishing with family.

Sam’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. Over the years as his children were involved in activities, he volunteered with the Sedley Recreation Association and the 4-H livestock show at the Southampton-Franklin County Fair.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at Wright Funeral Home with Pastor Curtis Faison and Pastor Ralphel Elliottt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, at Sam’s request, please consider a contribution to the Sedley Volunteer Fire Department, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your favorite local charity.
