WALTERS – Gwendolyn Hope Rhodes, 79, a life-long resident of Isle of Wight County, passed away March 21, 2023 in Riverside Healthy Living Community-Smithfield after a three year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was a daughter of the late James Curtis Rhodes and Jessie Stephens Rhodes.

Gwen was a 1962 graduate of Windsor High School and attended Chowan College. She was a retired social worker with Southampton County Social Services and had a passion for cooking, extensive traveling and shopping.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister, Lynn R. Cofield and her husband, Jimmy; a nephew, a great-niece and two great-great nephews.

A gaveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29 in Colosse Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Robert F. Cofield officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Colosse Baptist Church Building Fund.
