FRANKLIN – James Roger Owens, of Gardner Street in Franklin, departed his earthly life to claim his eternal reward on March 21, 2023 in his home. On Aug. 21, 1948, he was born in Isle of Wight County to the late William and Viola Picot Owens.
Roger attended the Isle of Wight County School System where he completed high school, graduating in 1969 from Georgie Tyler High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. After 40 years of service, Roger retired from International Paper as a crane operator in 2010. He was a devoted member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board.
Roger is survived by three daughters, Montoya Britt-Linton (Paxton), Anna Britt-Spence (Juan), Jalicia Johnson (Philip); one son, Marcus Hunt; four sisters, one brother, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
A public viewing will be held at the funeral home for Mr. Owens on Saturday from 2 – 6 p.m. A service honoring his life will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1071 Carrsville Highway in Franklin with the pastor, Rev. Alfred D. Brown Sr. delivering the eulogy. The committal and benediction will follow in Southview Cemetery. Masks are required at the services.
