Indians top Broncos in boys tennis season opener

Both Franklin High School and Southampton High School opened their 2023 varsity boys tennis seasons Wednesday, March 15, with a match played at SHS in Courtland. Both teams are in reload mode this season, but the Indians came out on top with a score of 8-1.
Singles played with an eight-game pro set. Following are the singles match results:
- Franklin’s Jusdes Turner def. Southampton’s Brayden Pittman — 8-5;
- Southampton’s Dane Magette def. Franklin’s Pheno Glover — 8-5;
- Southampton’s Ian Fowler def. Franklin’s Tyson Townes — 8-4;
- Southampton’s Jackson Whitley def. Franklin’s Hunter Paterson — 8-1;
- Southampton’s Ryan Schaefer def. Franklin’s Jordan Myrick — 8-2; and
- Southampton’s Wyatt Stuart won by forfeit.
Doubles also played with an eight-game pro set. Following are the doubles match results:
- Southampton’s Brayden Pittman/Dane Magette won by forfeit;
- Southampton’s Ian Fowler/Jackson Whitley def. Franklin’s Pheno Glover/Hunter Paterson — 8-3; and
- Southampton’s Ryan Schaefer/Wyatt Stuart won by forfeit.
