The Windsor Gymnastics Training Center XCEL team members validated the work they put in this season with strong performances at the 2023 Virginia XCEL State Championships in Hampton over the May 19-21 weekend.

“These young ladies worked hard all season to qualify for states, and they did a great job,” Windsor Gymnastics Association President Alisha Graney said. “We are a small team, but mighty!”

So many gymnasts from across Virginia compete in the state championships that they are organized into different levels, those levels are broken down by age, and each age is broken down into different divisions. The only gymnasts from the Windsor Gymnastics Training Center that competed in the same division of the same level were Aryah Finch and Amelya Ortolano.

Competing at the XCEL Platinum level, Windsor Gymnastics’ Karli Woody won the all-around championship in the division she was in. She did this by placing first in the bars, beam and floor and fifth in the vault.

At the XCEL Gold level, Josie Griffin, of Windsor Gymnastics, earned the all-around title for the division she was in after claiming first place in the vault, bars and beam and fifth in the floor.

Windsor Gymnastics’ Caroline Slaba earned fourth place all-around in the division she was in at the XCEL Silver level. She was third in the bars, fourth in the beam and sixth in both the vault and floor.

Also netting a fourth-place all-around finish in her respective division at the XCEL Silver level was Aislinn Graney, of Windsor Gymnastics. She was third in the bars, fourth in the beam, eighth in the floor and 11th in the vault.

An eighth-place all-around finish in a division at the XCEL Silver level went to Windsor Gymnastics’ Aryah Finch, who finished seventh in the beam, ninth in the vault and floor and 10th in the bars.

Holly Cook, of Windsor Gymnastics, garnered 10th place in the all-around rankings for a division at the XCEL Silver level. She was fourth in the floor, seventh in the bars and 11th in the vault and beam.

Amelya Ortolano competed in a division at the XCEL Silver level for Windsor Gymnastics and earned 16th place all-around. She finished eighth in vault, 16th in bars and beam and 17th in floor.

Woody and Griffin were set to go to the 2023 XCEL Regionals in Pennsylvania on the weekend of June 2-4. Windsor Gymnastics Training Center is part of Region 7.

“While all of our gymnasts had qualifying scores, this year the meet was limited to Gold level and higher,” Alisha Graney said. “We are wishing them the best of luck and know they’ll do amazing as always!”

Referencing the whole Windsor Gymnastics XCEL team, Graney said, “If anyone in the community would like to support and congratulate these talented athletes, we’d love for them to follow us at https://www.facebook.com/wga.xcel.”
