COURTLAND – Albert Newland Merrill, 85, passed away June 24, 2023. He was born in North Carolina and was a son of the late Albert Elum Merrill and Beatrice Cissom Merrill. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Jean Plemmons,

Earline Byers and one brother, Alvin Merrill.
Albert was the owner of Albert Merrill Grading Company where he built many ponds in the community. He loved to dance and go deep sea fishing. Albert’s passion was showing miniature show horses especially “Moonstruck.”
Left to cherish his memory is a daughter, Lori M. Galloway (James) of Pisgah Forest, North Carolina; a special friend, Lois Bryant of Courtland; three grandchildren, Brandon and Amber Galloway and Katie Bell (Corey); two great-grandchildren, Jonah and Landry Bell; his special family, Wade and Angela Bryant, Wyley Bryant, Renee Harrup, Hunter and Taylor Bryant and three nieces and one nephew.
A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 in Rosemont Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation or any favorite charity.
