A single-vehicle crash took place at the intersection of College Drive and Stewart Drive in Franklin on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 3.
At approximately 1:41 p.m., a Ford Edge SEL sport utility vehicle crashed into the pole supporting traffic lights that service vehicles approaching the intersection from Stewart Drive and vehicles headed toward Hunterdale on College Drive.
After striking the pole, the traffic light fixture that includes the left-turn light broke off and crashed to the ground in the middle of College Drive.
Concerned citizens who were near the intersection exited their vehicles and approached the Ford Edge to see what they could do. One of them made a call.
These citizens were unable to open the doors of the Ford Edge, but one lady used a tool to break out the driver- and passenger-side windows.
The Franklin Police Department responded to the scene and was later joined by Franklin Fire & Rescue and the Virginia State Police.
Franklin Fire & Rescue transported an individual away from the scene.
FPD Deputy Chief of Police Robert Porti confirmed at the scene that it was a single-vehicle crash into a pole and said he would share more information when he could.
Traffic was still being diverted as of 4 p.m., with the only flow of vehicles near the intersection being those coming from the Hunterdale area and turning onto Stewart Drive.
This is a developing story.
