Franklin police investigate South Street shooting

The Franklin Police Department responded to calls made in the early moments of Monday, Aug. 7, in reference to an individual with a gunshot wound and gunshots heard on South Street.
An FPD news release stated that at about 12:10 a.m., the City of Franklin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a call of a gunshot victim outside of Bon Secours – Southampton Medical Center.
At the same time the Emergency Communications Center received a call of gunshots fired in the 2200 block of South Street, the release noted.
“Upon further investigation it was determined that the victim, who had driven themselves to the hospital, had arrived at a residence in the 2200 block of South Street, was approached by an unknown male subject who demanded money, and while fleeing the male subject, the victim was shot multiple times,” police said.
The release noted that the victim was later transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
