A moped reportedly collided Monday afternoon, Oct. 2, with a Southampton County Public Schools bus that was carrying students on Delaware Road. The only injuries reported from the incident were to the moped driver, and they were not life threatening.
A Southampton County Sheriff’s Office news release stated that at about 2:51 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash on Delaware Road near Camp Parkway involving an SCPS bus and a moped.
Deputies investigated the crash and determined that the moped had been traveling in the same direction as the school bus before abruptly changing lanes and then driving into the side of the bus, police said. The release added that there were students on the bus at the time of the incident, but they did not report any injuries, and there was minimal damage to the bus.
The driver of the moped was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, the release noted, adding that traffic-related charges are pending for the driver of the moped.
