The varsity football teams for Southampton High School and Windsor High School struggled Friday evening, Sept. 29, falling by large margins to Tri-Rivers District opponents.
The Indians, who went undefeated in the district last season and claimed the Tri-Rivers title, faced a challenging Sussex Central High School team Friday and ultimately lost 42-6. With the win, the Tigers improve to 5-1 on the season; their offense is averaging 39.7 points per game.
Southampton (1-4), which entered Friday’s game fresh off its first victory of the season, will look to get back on track Friday, Oct. 6, when it visits Brunswick High School (4-1) at 7 p.m.
The Brunswick Bulldogs have played two district games so far, first routing visiting Surry County High School 49-22 on Sept. 22. For its second Tri-Rivers showdown, Brunswick spoiled Windsor’s homecoming on Friday, shutting out the Dukes 35-0.
Windsor, which started the season 2-1, is now on a three-game losing streak. Through its first four games, the Dukes offense averaged 33.3 points; but in its last two games, it has scored only six.
The Dukes (2-4) will look to return to their high-scoring ways when they visit Sussex Central on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
