WAKEFIELD – Dennis Hayes Clarke of Wakefield (Southampton County), passed away on Nov. 28, 2023 at the age of 73. He was the son of the late Vernon Hayes Clarke and Hylah Hargrave Harvell Clarke.

After graduating Southampton High School, he attended the Nashville Auto Diesel School in Tennessee where he met the love of his life, Debra Allene Price Clarke. He was a member of the Suffolk Church of Christ. Dennis was a proud life-long farmer. He was a steward of the land

and believed in preserving it for future generations.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Debra; beloved children, Sandra Clarke Lindsey (Pryor), William Timothy Clarke (Christen), Jennifer Gwyn Clarke; grandchildren and cousin, Ernest P. Hargrave, who worked alongside him for 50 plus years. Family was important to him and he enjoyed keeping in touch with his numerous cousins from the Clarke, Hargrave, Harvell and Langston families.

Dennis felt so fortunate to have been born into a kind and loving family and also to have wed into a kind and loving family. He appreciated and loved his in-laws, Bill and Ruth Price and Debra’s Aunt Allene.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family received friends Saturday, Dec. 2 from 2 – 3:30 p.m. in the R.W. Baker & Company Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel.
