Zuni man arrested in sexual assault case by Southampton County Sheriff’s Office

On Jan. 18, 2024, the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office received notification of a juvenile sexual assault in the 27000 block of Smiths Ferry Road, according to a Wednesday release.
According to the release, Matthew Ferguson, 32, of Zuni, was arrested on Feb. 7, 2024, charged with one count of violation of the Code of Virginia 18.2-374.1:1 possession of child pornography, two counts of violation of the Code of Virginia 18.2-374.3 use of communication systems to solicit a minor, three counts of violation of Code of Virginia 18.2-67.3 aggravated sexual battery of a minor less than 13 years of age, and one count of violation of Code of Virginia 18.2-67.4 sexual battery.
Ferguson was released on a secured bond on Feb. 20, 2024, and according to the release, his next court appearance is scheduled for April 18, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. in Southampton County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Surry County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Franklin Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
